New Church Calling

So besides being the 4th Sunday Relief Society teacher and teaching the Teachings for Our Time (which is a lesson based on 1-2 general conference talks from the most recent conference edition of the Ensign) I have been given another opportunity to grow and use my talents.
I was asked on Thursday night if I would be willing to do a stake calling for the young women. It is the campfire specialist for girl's camp. So what is that you might ask, especially since I had to ask myself? No, I'm not in charge of teaching the girls how to build fires, that's too easy. I'm in charge of the nightly activities (organizing, planning, running, etc.) from about 6:30-8:30 or 9:00 for the week of June 23-27. Since I have young kids I won't have to spend the night at camp, I can just drive over and do my thing and drive home, thankfully it's only a twenty minute drive to Prince William Forest. Well at least the nights are lightly scheduled as to what type of activity should take place and I do have a theme to work with: "Standing for Something," and the mutual theme for the year "Be steadfast and immovable, always abounding in good works." So the schedule looks like this: Monday- (which I don't think I'm in charge of) leader devotional; Tuesday-opening fireside (something spiritual to set the theme for the week-possibly a speaker or speakers) & singing trees; Wednesday-dancing & skits; Thursday-Bishop's night (get to know your bishop activity before they split off with their own wards); Friday-testimony meeting & Liahona Awards (I don't think I'm in charge of the awards).
The only thing I can think of is too bad it's been like 15 years since I've been to girl's camp!! I can pull the 10 virtues from Hinckley's book Standing for Something and pull together a talk for the first night, but I don't know.
Anyone have any great ideas?

Cousins, Conference, & Cherry Blossoms

Three of my cousins came to visit us April 3-10, Diane, Sara, and Christi Argyle. Needless to say, it was a lot of fun! They are so much like my family and Ben's it was very comfortable having them around. Diane and I were roommates at BYU for a year (my senior year and her sophomore year), so it was fun to catch up, and I haven't seen Sara or Christi since a 1997 family reunion so they have changed quite a bit. We were able to watch all the General Conference Sessions at our house on Saturday and Sunday(visiting the Manassas Battlefield in between Saturday sessions), and we were blessed by the great talks! We could tell President Monson had the mantle of prophet on his shoulders, he spoke differently, and I'm grateful to know he is the living prophet on the earth today. While the "pretty cousins," as Natalie would call them, were here they got in lots of walking and sight-seeing (probably in that order too) and attention from Natalie, not to mention late night visits. They lucked out being here during the Cherry Blossom Festival and so the trees in the area were in full bloom, which meant a lot of great pictures. Here are a few pictures of us.

Craft Group Night

I just wanted to post a picture of my latest craft, which I think turned out really cute! Pottery Barn Kids inspired our organizer, Andrea, of last night's craft. Of course it was much cheaper and it totally helped that Andrea's husband, Rob, made the wood frames that we stretched out our material on. I did it last night with a bunch of really creative and crafty friends (most of us were in an FHE lesson exchange for the past year and a half and now we've switched to craft exchanges). Basically, one person comes up with a craft and gets all the basic stuff and hosts it at their house and we all come and do it that night. It's 8"x20" and my color material I used is from a quilt I've been working on for almost 2 years for Natalie (the white material has butterflies on it, too bad you can't see them in the picture). Now I have more motivation to finish it so the art doesn't look lonely on the wall. (If you want to see everyone else's check out Andrea's blog.)
